Dance/Play/Movement Troupe Forming...

mirth: n. great fun; merriment; noisy gaiety, jocularity; that which causes fun
n.; a group of people intentionally and collectively experiencing merriment

A mirth of local players and performers is forming. The word forming is being used loosely; we’re not going on the road or anything(at least not yet). I want to help gather some people with the intent of exploring the boundaries of what we can do together-performance and creativity wise. You do not (repeat DO NOT) need to have an existing skill which falls into any of the following categories. Personally I have next to no experience in any of this stuff. A desire and willingness to learn, play, and strive is much more important than expertise.

Seeking people(or others) who want to explore dance(all kinds), martial arts, street theatre, butoh, gymnastics, contortion, drumming, yoga, kubuki, busking, stilt walking, sphere play, sound creation, break dancing, cabaret, acrobatics, and making costumes and all sorts of other stuff.

I don’t have a rigid idea or vision of what this will be. I am not the leader but I am the force acting as a catalyst to get this going. Maybe we can get together when we can, teach each other different forms, and see what happens.

I would like to incorporate capoeira, tai chi, fire staff, myth remembering, and swelling circus music into a 10 minute piece, call it an intro, and then set in on an Arabic flute based mesmerizing dance improve, berimbau beat backed, cartwheel freakout, followed by macabre mask adorned, kali striking, throat singing and chanting monkey circle parade in the dust finale. If this sort of thing sounds appealing please get in touch.

I am in Carrboro so it would be great to collaborate with people in the nearby vicinity but anyone who is interested is welcome to get in touch.
Hoopdance Intensive Playshop - July 6th

Please join us for our Hoop Dance Intensive Playshop for Beginners

When: Sunday, July 6th from 1:00p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Playdate to follow.)

Where: 609 Sardis Drive, Raleigh, NC 27603 (from the 40/440 beltline, take exit 297 and, at the top of the ramp, turn away from the Farmer's Market (outside the beltline). Take 2nd LEFT onto Carolina Pines. Take 4th LEFT onto Sardis. 4th house on the RIGHT.

For Whom: This Playshop is for the Beginner to the Intermediate Hooper. There is something for everyone in this four-hour intensive.

Cost: $30 per person

What to Bring: Your hoop (a large hoop and a small hoop are ideal if you have two), comfortable shoes, snacks and beverages and a cd of songs you love to dance to for the playdate. (We will have a kitchen, a fridge and a microwave at our disposal. I also have some loaner hoops for folks who need them and I sell custom hoops as well.)

What to Wear: Dress for success. This means form fitting layers of natural fiber clothing. Layers will allow us to accommodate different temperatures. Natural fibers make for better hooping. Hoops slide off of nylon, acetate and rayon. They stick better to cotton, hemp, wool, leather and, best of all, skin. Many hoopers strategically place areas of exposed skin at the waist, upper arms and upper thighs to help with grip. Fingerless gloves can keep your hands warm, protect the back of the hands and leave your fingers exposed to increase finger grip. Weight-lifting gloves are great for this.

What You Will Learn: Basic stretches and warm-up exercises, on-the-body hooping for waist and hips, hand hooping, passes, stalls, isolations and step-throughs from every side. We will also introduce chest and shoulder hooping, warrior poses, back and chest rolls, orbitals and choreography.

We will start promptly at 1:00. Feel free to arrive at 12:30 if you prefer so we can meet and greet and organize our stuff before we begin.

Souhail Kaspar Arabic Drum and Belly Dance Workshop August 2-3

Hi everyone -

My teacher, Souhail Kaspar, is returning to the Triangle to teach a full drum and dance workshop the weekend of August 2-3, 2008. If you are at all interested in Arabic drumming I highly recommend you take the drum workshop on that Saturday. I will have flyers to hand out when I teach my own workshop this Saturday, June 21 at Music Explorium - Souhail's workshop is also at Music Explorium.

Details and registration are here: http://halobellydance.com/souhail.html. If you are a dancer, you can get the early bird special for the Sunday dance workshop as well, but please note that the studio location for that has not been finalized yet.

This is a great way to get started with Arabic drumming or to continue your studies with one of the few teachers who can give you more and more encouragement and training regardless of the level you have reached. And if you register before July 10 you can get an amazing SIX hours of classes with this famous teacher for only $75 (prices go up after that). You are also welcome to bring a riq (Arabic tambourine) if that's your instrument of choice.

A couple of important points though:

* If you are a beginner/near-beginner doumbek player or play other drum types, make sure to start with the morning class.
* I still take the beginner class every time because there are nuances to be gained. Souhail is big on technique.
* Please feel free to forward this email to other drummers and pass it on to your dancer friends! Sunday Souhail will be teaching dance all day!

See you then! Email me with any questions.

Beginning Oriental Dance (Belly Dance)
Ninth Street Dance

*Sundays, 2:45 - 4:00p
Session runs June 8 - Aug. 24
*Thursdays, 6:30 - 7:30p

Learn traditional Middle Eastern dance movements that have been passed down for generations in this entry-level class. Beginning belly dance is about learning how to connect with your body and spirit. Suitable for all shapes, sizes and activity levels, but you will get a work out! This class will focus on improving flexibility, conditioning the body in order to do the movements properly, and building stamina. You will learn basic belly dance techniques that focus on the core aspects of the dance. Wear comfortable clothes. Pants or shorts are preferred as we will be stretching on the floor. Bring water. Dance shoes, yoga mats and hip scarves are optional.

Fees for most classes must be paid by the first class for the entire session. Fees prorated as session progresses. Signing up for a whole session and attending classes consecutively is strongly encouraged as each class will build upon the previous classes. New students may try one class per session on a complimentary basis. If you decide to enroll, this class will be counted as your first class; payment will be due by the beginning of your second class.

This is a rare chance to study with a master drummer and sought-after dance coach, as well as see dynamic performers with special music and dance guests perform in a theater setting. Read on for details or just register at:

http://www.halobellydance.com/souhail.html
http://www.halobellydance.com/souhail_show.html

You can also contact the organizer, John Price, directly at freecellwizard@gmail.com for more information or to receive an address for mail registration. Drum or dance teachers signing up 5 of their students will be able to take the same classes for free.

I cannot stress enough what an opportunity this is! If you haven't seen Souhail play the drums, check out this clip of him on YouTube and be amazed. Here's another one of him interacting with a dancer and having a blast.

Souhail Kaspar is a master percussionist who has accompanied many famous Arab musicians and has performed with Sting and Kronos Quartet. He has many recording credits including the Sinbad and Prince of Egypt soundtracks and the recent Grammy-nominated album "When the Soul Is Settled: Music Of Iraq" on Smithsonian Folkways Recordings.

Rachid Halihal is a Moroccan virtuoso classically trained on the violin and oud and is a respected Arabic singer. He has played with legendary musicians and singers including Mohamed Abdo, and often teaches with the popular dance teacher Eva Cernik.

Saturday, April 19th we have two separate workshop tracks - one for dancers and one for musicians! The main track at Triangle Dance Studio will cater to dancers with two 2-hour Rhythm and Movement classes taught by Souhail with the help of his protege, the lovely Ziva, followed by a two-hour beginning doumbek class. Dancers who have studied with Souhail say he has revolutionized the way they dance to Arabic music.

For musicians, Rachid will be at the Music Explorium teaching two two-hour classes on maqam (scales) and Arabic songs to those with melodic instruments. They are welcome to then hop over to the main studio to take the beginning drum class. And don't forget the big show Saturday night! Read on ...

Saturday night at the Durham Arts Council's beautiful PSI Theater we have a special treat! Souhail, Rachid, and Naji Hilal will perform live Arabic music as Ziva and talented local dancers interpret their incredible sound. Naji is an excellent oud player, singer, and multi-instrumentalist who has played in various Arabic and jazz bands and played with the likes of Omar Farouk Tekbilek. And we'll cap it all off with some open dancing, so bring your hip scarves!

Sunday, April 20th caters to the continuing drummer with a series of classes that will inspire their playing to new heights. Advanced classes with Souhail are a memorable experience that will challenge and excite you and keep you practicing long after they are over.

Again, you can register online: http://www.halobellydance.com/souhail.html

Beginner Hoopdance Classes by Caroleeena

I will be teaching Beginner Hoopdance classes at Ninth Street Dance beginning on March 18th. Classes will be held every Tuesday from 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm and will run from March 18 - May 20. The entire nine week session is only $90. To register, call 919-286-6011 or print out the registration form from the website and mail it in with payment. Here's a link to the website: www.ninthstreetdance.com.

We will have some loaner hoops for people to borrow but I encourage every student to purchase their own hoop so that they can practice at home. There will be professional hoops available for purchase at the class.

Here's more info about the class:

Beginner Hoopdance – Hooping is an amazing cardiovascular exercise that strengthens and tones every major muscle group in the body, especially the core muscles in the abdomen and back. It feels good, giving you a massage even as it gives you a workout. It is also a moving mediation. But, most of all, hooping is fun! It puts a smile on your face, transforming your body while it elevates your spirit. Hoopdance combines the exercise of hooping with the beauty and grace of dancing.

This nine week, beginner level class will introduce the basics of hooping while also teaching a fusion of handwork and footwork from all over the world.

And here is some info about me, the teacher:

Carolyn Mabry, aka Caroleeena, has been a hoopdancer for over five years and is a talented teacher with over three years teaching experience. She is also a performer and a fire dancer. Carolyn has studied flamenco and many other forms of dance, including bellydance, classical Indian dance, bollywood, hula, and modern dance and integrates aspects of all these into her classes to help students create their own unique, improvisational hoopdance.

In 2005, Carolyn created an annual hoop, books and musical instrument donation service project in Negril, Jamaica. Working in collaboration with the Little Feat band and CHNY, this year's program placed dozens of hoops with foster children and brought in hundreds of books and many musical instruments for local schools. She hopes to do similar projects in Thailand and Africa in coming years.

Caroleeena recently won the 2007 Hoopie Award from Hooping.org for Outstanding Hooping Tribe member. She moderates the Hooping Videos tribe, the Hooping Costumes tribe and RaleighHoops! She also mentors new hoopers throughout the world via the internet.

For more information about Caroleeena, check out her Tribe page: http://people.tribe.net/caroleeena

Last night, someone broke into my friend's house and stole the older Pekinese dog she was providing foster care for. Gizmo had been given up by her elderly ownder after 12 years and she was supposed to go to an adoption event tomorrow. She is incredibly sweet and gentle. She is deaf and 12 so I'm afraid once they realize that she's not sell-able, Gizmo will be in danger. The news is running a segment about it tonight. I thought I would post it here as well in case any Durham-ites might see her or happen to know something. Irene, the foster mother, is beside herself and so am I. Here's a link to my blog with the whole story and pictures of little Gizmo.
There is a previous blog too that I posted while we were trying to find her a new home:

Tribal Bellydance classes- Sat. mornings in Durham

Don't sleep in or watch cartoons-- come out to the Triangle Dance Studio in Durham and learn some cool bellydance moves and combinations on Saturday mornings with me, Sara!

Directions to the studio are available at www.triangledancestudio.com .

The schedule for the class is available at www.sarabeaman.com .

My classes are structured a little differently than most. There is no "beginner", "intermediate" or "advanced" level. Both classes are rigorous and challenging, and are geared towards students who have a serious interest in exploring bellydance as an artform. Please read the descriptions carefully to determine which classes would be a good fit for you.

CORE: (10AM-11:20AM) This class is an exploration of bellydance technique focusing on isolations, posture, kinesthetic awareness, and the biomechanics of movement. Each class will begin with a centering warmup, focus on two to three moves and isolations from the ATS-inspired/Tribal/Folkloric movement vocabulary, and conclude with some group improv.
CORE is the right class for you if...
...you have never taken a bellydance class before
...you can only take classes intermittently (there are no class sessions)
...you want to focus on movement technique
...you want to learn about specific moves (feel free to suggest some either by email or at the beginning of any class)

FLOW: (11:40AM-1PM) This class is an exploration of bellydance performance focusing on transitions, stylization, grace, fluidity and emotion. Flow classes come in 5 to 7 week sessions and students are encouraged to attend as many of those weeks as possible in order to keep up with the curriculum. These classes introduce combinations for choreography and improv that emphasize musicality. Some sessions will focus on special topics (such as a specific style or skill), while others will be combos-into-choreography.
FLOW is the right class for you if...
...you are already familiar with some basic bellydance moves
...you are new to bellydance but want a mental challenge
...you would want to learn and/or perform a choreography with other students
...you would prefer a class with a set curriculum which builds on each previous week of instruction

Each class is 1 hour and 20 minutes in length. The fees are $14 for one class, $24 for both classes in a day, or $60 for a 6-class pass card. (I will keep your pass card and give you a copy for your own reference, but you won't have to keep track of it yourself, so you won't have to worry about losing your credit. Pass cards can be used for either class and do not expire.)

If financial concerns are keeping you from taking a class, please send me an email (skbeaman@yahoo.com). It may be possible that we could set up a fair barter system or some type of work-study arrangement.

You can RSVP for a class or class session by emailing me at skbeaman@yahoo.com. Please include the name of the class you would like to RSVP for and the date in the subject line (example: Flow Jan 1). In the body of your email, please provide me with your name and let me know whether you would like to be added to my mailing list or not. You can also feel free to tell me about your dance background or introduce yourself in any way you would like in the email. I love to know something about my students beyond just faces and names.

You do not need to prepay, or, for that matter, preregister for classes. Space is not a huge consideration. The RSVP is a courtesy to me to let me know how many students to expect in each class.

Please come to class prepared to pay by check or cash if you have not previously purchased a class pass. I can not take credit cards.

I reserve the right to cancel classes or class sessions at any time for any reason. In the event of a cancellation I will make all reasonable attempts to contact any students the change would potentially affect, in addition to posting all changes both on my website and on my blog. Because there is no prepayment system, no refunds will be given in the event of a cancellation.

Oldschool rave party Pittsboro Sat Aug 25

Hey all;

Dunno if anyone here recalls DJ Mr. Bill from G'boro, or Rob Rousseau from Raleigh, but if you are into oldschool rave, they will be spinning (along with myself) at a benefit outdoor party at the Community College in Pittsboro this Saturday evening, starting around 8pm.

The event is a 100% clean good time, as it's a benefit for a church campus youth program, but that won't stop us from dancing our a**es off.

Here's Mr. Bill's MySpace, he has the flyer posted:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=57245559

Re-enchant Planet Earth

My lovely friend Marilyn, who lives in Cary, NC, has been working diligently on a new website called Re-enchant Planet Earth. It's slowly getting filled up with local, inspiring, positive stories and has a great free newsletter called "Thee Talking Stick". I really love getting these stories delivered to my email box.

I'm passing this on because Marilyn isn't on Tribe (though it is my intention to get her on here!) and I think that a lot of people might connect to her vision. She's always looking for writers, friends and people to collaborate with.

She's an amazing ball of energy - always full of smiles and love - and always helping others around her grow larger and larger. A vibrant creature, really. I love the direction she's taking with the site:

www.reenchantplanetearth.com

I really love her idea of iCircles too, where she allows people to have a phone conference with the story writers - so they can connect to others with like minds. Brilliant!

Please check it out. :) And if you feel inspired to share - send her a story.

Thanks!

Hoop workshop Carrboro June 23

Hi All, come on out to a hoop dancing workshop taught by the beautiful and talented, Patika Starr. Ladies are welcome to join us. Here are the details...Let me know by sending a private message if you want to come!

Hooping is sexy and is an amazing form of exercise. It can also be meditative and is a wonderful way of creatively expressing yourself. With fast music, hooping provides a great cardio workout and burns fat. Hooping targets core strength, but is a great toner for the whole body. The best thing about hooping is its fun!

In Patika's beginners hoop workshop, we'll explore the fundamentals of hoop dance and go over the basics. Using adult sized hoops you will learn to keep the hoop up, how to move with the hoop, off body hooping, angle hooping, lifting the hoop off your body and other impressive tricks. We will then apply all that we've gone over to dance- hoop dance! Patika will include in the class a short hoop dance performance to give you an idea of where you can take your hooping. The class is 2 hours long and their will be an additional break in between hours and a performance at the end.

What to Bring: Please bring $30.00 for the class (cash please) water, sun block, a hoop (if you have one), and a smile!

What to Wear: Dress in clothes that are tighter fitting and will allow you to move. It is best if the fabrics you wear are not slippery (like shiny lycra). Cotton is a great fabric. Hoops stick best to skin. We recommend wearing sleeveless or short sleeve shirts and shorts or a mini skirt (one that allows you to move).

What will be provided: There will be hoops that you can use in class and some to sell. There cost is $35.00. If more hoops are required than I have to sell, you may special order them.

Workshop taught by Patika Starr

Reposted from WELSH on my tribe friend list.
I have contact info if interested.

Hi Steph,
Do you know of anyone in Durham who may have an
> extra room in their house or apartment that they
> would be willing to rent on a temporary basis
> for a few weeks in January?
> I am traveling to Duke for my daughter's heart
> surgery and need a place to stay, preferably
> near the hospital. I would be happy to pay rent
> and would not be there much except to sleep and
> eat and relax. Thanks Stephanie.
>
> Linda

ARTIST CALL for 2006 FAMES

Calling all artists. Visual, Performance, Musical, every sense.

Interested in showing your art (and selling, if you choose) in a different atmosphere? A one night set up and break down.

Glamoore Productions proudly hosts its third Saturday installments of "Artistic Interpretations." Local art one night expose' showcasing artistic talents from all over the triangle area. From amateurs to professionals. We combine the delights of fashion themes, art, music and cocktails.

A unique blend of house music and other genres to get you dancing later in the evening. Glamoore Productions is currently seeking artists who are interested in displaying their work in a "gallery" like no other.

Past FAME events have drawn large crowds inside RINGSIDE's intimate, eclectic club with 4 floors of entertainment.

No showing fee, no commission taken. We want you to promote yourself and our party!
This is a great way for either emerging or well-established artists to display their work in a "non-traditional" gallery-type setting. We simply provide the environmental canvas to you for an evening of exceptional fashion, art, music and culture.

So, if this sounds appetizing to your palate, uh-hmm, we mean art palate, then please submit a response to this "casting call". Please be certain to include the following information in your reply: Full Name, Email address, Phone Number, and either digital samples or an URL to your online portfolio. We look forward to hearing from you!

Upcoming themes:
January 21: FREAK
Febuary 18: PASSION
March 18: BURNING WOMAN

I'm in need of figures to sculpt - age and gender are not an issue, so long as your form is interesting.

My medium is clay. the time commitment is 2-4 hours per sitting, with breaks every 20 min or so. Compensation depends on experience of subject and difficulty of pose.

Paperhand is thrilled to announce this year's production at the Forest theater in Chapel Hill

GARDEN OF THE WILD
Explore and celebrate of the Wild and wildness in everything!
This year, we are using short vingettes to express our many thoughts and feelings around this theme.
These short pieces feature a number of different puppetry styles including: masks, stilt walkers, giant puppets (and, yes, they're big!) and shadows (at the end, of course.)
Come get wild with us in this exciting, fun, all-ages performance.
You don't want to miss it!

Mark your calendars, and tell your friends!

GARDEN OF THE WILD begins August 12th and runs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings until September 4th.

The puppet show begins every evening at 7 pm with a different pre-show every night starting at 6:30.

Admission is
$10.00 for adults
$7.00 for 12 and under
2 and under are FREE.
All puppeteers and musicians in the show are paid, so please donate what you can to keep this kind of art in our community.

We perform at the beautiful and historic Forest Theater located on the UNC- Chapel Hill campus directly across from the Paul Green Theater. (Map Quest for directions.) There's a public parking lot on Boundary Street about a block from the theater. This is an outdoor amphitheater; so, come prepared!

You may want to bring the following:
a picnic
festive summertime drinks
fancy duds
a cushion for your butt (stone seats)
Your Grandma
and whatever else you think you'll need.

Movies @ Brier Creek
8611 Brier Creek,Raleigh,NC
Friday, July 15, 4:00pm

When is the last time you headed out of work early on a friday??? Well, this is your chance! Skip out of work or eat some bad egg salad for lunch on Friday.

Meet us at Brier Creek Movies at 4pm for the movie: Charlie & the Chocolate Factory!

Box office opens 30 minutes before the movie starts but I would suggest that you buy tickets on-line if you plan on attending. It is still considered matinee and there is only a $1 service charge on the on-line purchase. It may be smarter to buy the tickets on-line just in case they sell out. Friday is opening day!

Here is the link. You need to go all the way to the bottom to pick the Charlie movie. Pick July 15 (it will let you once you try the current date with the Charlie movie). Make sure you choose Brier Creek (the best location for easy 540 location). 4:00pm

Why not a little wonka teasing before the FAME party on Saturday? Maybe you will come up with some last minute ideas! ;)

Hope to see you there!!!

Payless is ok for everyday but I need more. Plus I am petite and wear a size 5 shoe which no one carries. I 'm looking for a shoe warehouse or something. I'd appreciate any leads!

Durham Women's Assembly Day - March 12

The Durham Women’s Assembly

March 12, 2005

Registration begins at 9:00 am
Program is from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Location:
First Presbyterian Church
305 East Main Street
Durham, NC 27701

A light continental breakfast and lunch will be provided!

This is a FREE event!

The Durham Assembly will allow women of all ages, classes, sexual orientation as well as diverse racial, cultural and ethnic backgrounds to join together to encourage dialogue and voice concerns about issues related to healthcare, civic participation and equality, economic self-sufficiency and violence against women.

Since 1988, advocates in North Carolina have banded together bi-annually to share information on public policy issues. Their efforts have resulted in a "Draft Women's Agenda" published in late summer as an educational tool.

These issues are then discussed at "Women's Agenda Assemblies" across the state, and the summaries of those discussions are presented to the Legislature at the start of the session in the odd year.

We encourage all women in Durham to attend and to voice your vision at this open community forum!

•	For free onsite child care, call (919) 682-7777 or email durham_ncwu@yahoo.com. Please let us know each child’s name, and how old they are so we may properly prepare their supervision. Child care is FREE!

Celebrating a few key FREAKS this Saturday:FAME

We'll be celebrating a few special freaks! Happy Birthday to SABEEN and CHRISTY! Also best wishes to LUCINDA as she ventures to San Fran).

FAME Anniversary Party: FREAK OUT:Jan15
-------------------------------------------------------
FAME ANNIVERSARY PARTY:JAN15:FREAK OUT!

This is your open call. To all the freaks, wanna be's, trashmonsters, psychotics and degenerates...get your butts out the door and on the freakin' floor.

Since Josephine Baker first wowed them with her banana skirt (and nothing else) at the Folies Bergeres, and Zeigfield had his Follies, nightlife has been filled with colorful and flamboyant characters that defined their era.

In the Seventies, it was Bianca Jagger's triumphant entrance into Studio 54 naked on a white horse a la Lady Godiva. In the Eighties, it was the out-of this world-Keith Haring body painted Grace Jones. In the Nineties, a virtual explosion of club kids ran rampant through NYC nightlife, culminating with the bizzare, and tragic life of Michael Alig.

The Nineties were a time of experimentation, of flamboyance and great creativity. Those who remember NYC warehouse parties remember the characters that spent weeks preparing their costumes and personal shows... whether hired or not. It was electric, and for everyone who remembers it, special. Somewhere along the way, we moved to NC and the suburbanites took over, and dress to depress has been the rule ever since.

FREAK OUT FAME is not just a look back, it ’s a look forward, picking up where we left off. It ’s the chance to inspire the creativity! To make a night like no others.

The limits of what you can do are truly up to you. Just be origina1. A wig and some lipstick just won't cut it (well for NC, maybe it will cut it).

Think zombie b-movie, think double d cup, think too much plastic surgery, think glamour, glamour, GLAMOOOOOORE! We expect to see you, fierce, doing your thing.

Music by: DAVE MANN (UK Garage & House): LeMOORE (House): PHAT RABBIT (Progressive, funky breaks)

RINGSIDE:308 W Main Street, Durham:18+
$8

We will be collecting checks and donations, as well as a percentage of the door at FAME to go towards the SAVE THE CHILDREN Program, a program in which the initial focus is on the children and families in Indonesia and coastal areas of Sri Lanka and India.

SAVE THE CHILDREN has set up a special fund for the Asian Emergency response and this money will be designated to that fund (over 90% of all expenditures are used on direct program services). The program provides child-focused relief to assist in assessing and meeting the needs of children and their families. This includes the basic necessities to survive the crisis including water, food, shelter and medical supplies, while also helping children adjust to the catastrophe.

We will be collecting the night of FAME (and at all other GlamPro events). You can write checks (which is encouraged) or donate in one of the designated collection boxes. The checks should be made out to "Save the Children" and indicate on the check memo area that the donation is for the Asian Earthquake/Tsunami Fund.

http://www.savethechildren.org/

Everyone is welcome as long as you are freaks or freak lovers!

The Eccentrik Festival is a one-day event featuring musicians, DJs, artists, and vendors. The first annual Eccentrik will be held on Saturday, October 23rd in Raleigh, North Carolina at the Brewery and the Cantina.

Spread over these two neighboring venues on Hillsborough Street, the Eccentrik Festival will feature a full day of live music in the Brewery and vendors, artwork, and DJs in the Cantina, with poi (fire-spinning) in the driveway between the two. A burlesque troupe will be featured during one of the DJ sets.

Razed In Black will headline the festival, bringing their blend of hard industrial, coldwave, futurepop and metal to North Carolina for the second time ever.

More Machine Than Man is a multimedia fetish/cyber-goth project featuring performance art as well as guitar-driven industrial dance music.

Opening the live music aspect of the festival will be Raleigh-based electronic duo RJE, an ongoing side project from members of Nomad Project A.V. and enc0der.

Ego Likeness is a female-fronted band out of Baltimore, Maryland that draws comparisons to such diverse groups as Berlin, Concrete Blonde, and Collide.

RED ALL OVER is a female-fronted Charlotte band whose melodic, danceable songs are reminiscent of late-’80s alternative music with a dose of modern European electro-pop.

Oddstar is a self-described "electrogothicspacerock" band from Asheville, North Carolina with an ethereal undercurrent beneath elements of early electronic and darkwave styles. This is a band who could have been at home on the Projekt label, especially during its early days.

Haitian Hate Gods, a self-described industrial funk band out of North Carolina, features female vocals. The band’s sound blends driving industrial floor-stompers and soulful slow numbers.

Clockwerk fuses elements of both dark ambient noise and aggressive industrial experimentalism. The Winston-Salem, North Carolina-based trio are inspired by bands such as Clock DVA, Front 242, and Skinny Puppy.

Raleigh’s own Threshold 6 is a dark electronic band whose sound ranges from fast-paced and danceable to slinky and seductive.

The DJ lineup includes New York City’s DJ Chad Collins as well as a roster of Carolinas DJs that includes DJ Anarathoth, Count Zackula & DJ Konstruct, DJ Kalyx, DJ Kantrip, DJ Nguinn, DJ Scarab, DJ Nareau, DJ Telal, and DJ Zero Anjel.

Items for sale at the vendor tables will include gothic house wares, clothing and accessories, mehendi tattoos, and custom-made fangs.

The Clarion State Capitol is the official hotel of Eccentrik. Rooms are $63 per night; ask for the Eccentrik block of rooms.
