Please join us for our Hoop Dance Intensive Playshop for Beginners
When: Sunday, July 6th from 1:00p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Playdate to follow.)
Where: 609 Sardis Drive, Raleigh, NC 27603 (from the 40/440 beltline, take exit 297 and, at the top of the ramp, turn away from the Farmer's Market (outside the beltline). Take 2nd LEFT onto Carolina Pines. Take 4th LEFT onto Sardis. 4th house on the RIGHT.
For Whom: This Playshop is for the Beginner to the Intermediate Hooper. There is something for everyone in this four-hour intensive.
Cost: $30 per person
What to Bring: Your hoop (a large hoop and a small hoop are ideal if you have two), comfortable shoes, snacks and beverages and a cd of songs you love to dance to for the playdate. (We will have a kitchen, a fridge and a microwave at our disposal. I also have some loaner hoops for folks who need them and I sell custom hoops as well.)
What to Wear: Dress for success. This means form fitting layers of natural fiber clothing. Layers will allow us to accommodate different temperatures. Natural fibers make for better hooping. Hoops slide off of nylon, acetate and rayon. They stick better to cotton, hemp, wool, leather and, best of all, skin. Many hoopers strategically place areas of exposed skin at the waist, upper arms and upper thighs to help with grip. Fingerless gloves can keep your hands warm, protect the back of the hands and leave your fingers exposed to increase finger grip. Weight-lifting gloves are great for this.
What You Will Learn: Basic stretches and warm-up exercises, on-the-body hooping for waist and hips, hand hooping, passes, stalls, isolations and step-throughs from every side. We will also introduce chest and shoulder hooping, warrior poses, back and chest rolls, orbitals and choreography.
We will start promptly at 1:00. Feel free to arrive at 12:30 if you prefer so we can meet and greet and organize our stuff before we begin.
